Prevalence of alcohol among drivers, riders and pedestrians injured in road traffic crashes in Cameroon: A cross-sectional study

This study aims to determine the prevalence of alcohol among injured road traffic crash victims (motor vehicle drivers, motorcycle riders, and pedestrians) admitted three major health centers in Cameroon (one Douala two Yaoundé). also investigated associations between use some socio-demographic injury characteristics users, such as gender age, level education, religion, type user, time day week, severity. Alcohol was measured using breathalyzers, data on gender, education level, crash, characteristics, severity were recorded a questionnaire. Of 350 participants, 30.9% had blood concentrations (BACAC s) above 0.08% (legal limit for drivers); proportion highest riders (36.5%), followed by pedestrians (24.8%) motor drivers (18.9%). The with BACAC weekend nights those who most seriously injured. Those reported being Muslims lower alcohol. Multivariable logistic regression analysis confirmed associations. Many injuries could have been avoided if patient not consumed Actions should therefore be taken reduce alcohol-impaired users.
